Work could start in 2021 on three new bridges in Christchurch's red zone
Three new pedestrian and cycle bridges across Christchurch’s Avon River will be completed by early 2022.
Christchurch City Council will decide on Thursday whether to push ahead with the construction of the bridges, which will cost $11.5 million to build.
The bridges will be funded by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust.
The structures will be part of the green spine, a network of trails and green areas that hug the banks of the river between the city centre and New Brighton.
The Medway St and the Snell Pl bridges both replace structures that have been missing since the earthquakes. The Avondale Bridge will provide a link from New Brighton Rd to Hulverstone Rd and a future wetland restoration area.
