πŸ”πŸ¦‹ Join Canterbury Museum in the search for various species at the Mahoe Native Reserve in Lincoln as part of the Great Southern Bioblitz. You'll be on the hunt for anything that flies, grows, crawls and hides! The Great Southern BioBlitz is an opportunity for all countries in the Southern Hemisphere to record organisms during Spring and showcase their beautiful biodiversity to the world.

What to Expect:
Get a close-up look at the creatures you find with our digital microscope connected to a monitor.

πŸ¦‹ Our expert volunteers will be equipped with butterfly nets, beating sheets, and soil sieves to help collect and identify species from every corner of the reserve.

We are hoping to also offer you the chance to:

πŸ’§ Participate in hands-on water quality testing and learn about the life in our waterways.

🌱 Discover what lies beneath our feet with soil exploration activities that reveal the hidden system supporting us.

πŸ“± Download the iNaturalist application to your handheld device before attending to contribute your findings to the Great Southern Bioblitz 2025.

The Environmental Protection Authority announced this week that a proposed mine in Central Otago (near Cromwell) is about to enter its fast-track assessment process. A final decision could come within six months, and if it’s approved, construction might start as early as mid-2026.
