Why are so many people dying on our roads ??

Chris from Prebbleton

I am all for reducing the road toll. I would like to see ways of actually doing this because so far nothing I see that is being done officially is helping at all.
I just saw a comment on Stuff where the police are blaming the usual - "Speed, alcohol and drugs and distraction are still the main causes of death and serious injury."
And it got me to wondering as to how lowering the speed limits on most of our roads is going to help with any of these (I am interested in before the event, not having a way to blame afterwards).
The first from excessive speed - this will mean driving at a speed not safe for conditions etc. Imposing an arbitrary limit has no meaning to those speeding, they are going to do it regardless. The other three (alcohol, drugs, distraction [I am ignoring the extra "and" here]) have nothing to do with speed limits.
Looking at this it seems to me that lowering the speed limits has caused more deaths rather than fixing anything !!!

Poll: Have you ever been bullied?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

People associate bullying with children in schools, but it can actually stretch beyond childhood to workplaces or neighbourhoods.

This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.

Have you or your whānau ever experienced bullying? Share your thoughts on Pink Shirt Day below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
