Christchurch City Council has today given the go ahead for interim remediation work to be done on up to 42 below ground well heads that tap into flowing artesian aquifers where the risk of contamination is low.
“If we want to meet our target of getting the chlorine out of our drinking water by May next year we need to do this interim remediation work,’’ says Cr Pauline Cotter, Chair of the Council’s Infrastructure, Transport and Environment Committee.

Emergency Mobile Alerts are not meant to replace other emergency alerts, or the need to take action after natural warnings.
You still need to be prepared for an emergency and you should not wait to get an alert before you act. If you feel your life is in danger, don’t wait for an official warning. Take immediate action.

Parts of the South Island have been plunged back into winter, with roads closed and snow warnings issued.
Snow is expected to keep falling in much of the South Island down to 500 metres today.

The Banks Peninsula Community Board last week approved plans to restrict daytime parking to 60 minutes at the car park at the intersection of Summit Rd and Dyers Pass Rd.
The council also agreed to change two of the 12 parking spots, which are near the Sign of the Kiwi cafe, to a mobility park and a designated motorcycle parking spot.
