1. If you’re not using it, switch it off: If you’re not using an appliance, such as a heated towel, dryer, or TV, switch it off at the wall so it doesn’t use power on standby.
2. Change your cooking habits: Eat fresh veges instead of cooking. Using the oven for an hour a night can add $20 to your monthly power bill.
3. Use curtains to trap heat in: Let the sun heat your home during the day then close your curtains to stop the warmth escaping in the evening.
4. If you’re away, turn the hot water cylinder off: You can save up to $36 on your power bill if you switch your hot water cylinder off while away on weekends.
5. Make the most out of your FREE Hour of Power: Utilise power deals like Electric Kiwi’s free Hour of Power, which gives you one off peak hour of free power a day. Use this hour to heat your home, turn on the dishwasher, or run the washing machine and dryer.

Seed will be dropped on about 60 hectares of private land around Cashmere Valley, Worsleys Spur, Hoon Hay Valley and Early Valley Road, as part of an approach coordinated by the Council to reduce sediment issues in streams.
The seed is being dropped on areas where there has been limited natural regrowth.
Two seed mixes are being used: one which is for land that will be used primarily for pasture and another mix that allows native plants to grow.
Reseeding areas has been identified as one of the first steps to reduce the likelihood of ash and sediment entering waterways if there was significant rain.

That's excessive!
They have a related service called Goodnest that matches customers to trades services. It's big in Auckland and Wellington and they are setting it up here in Christchurch.
I'm a local handyman. I don't object to paying a finders fee for someone finding me work but I think a fee of $10 per hour is excessive. Goodnest approached me, saying they would charge any work I did through them at $45 per hour and give me $35 per hour. Needless to say I declined. Stinging someone an extra $70 a day for nothing is a rip off.
If you want a local trades or service that comes with feedback and references, stick with Neighbourly, you'll get the same deal for much less. (And of course if you are looking for a handyman give me a call on 044 451 7314 for a free quote and advice).
