Bird lovers rejoicing at news Kaikōura's penguin chicks hatched earlier than ever
Little blue penguins have broken their own record by bringing their own bundles of joy into this world earlier than ever before.
Kaikōura Ocean Research Institute director Dr Jody Weir said the penguins chicks at the South Bay colony have hatched earlier than previously recorded in New Zealand.
"We first saw these eggs on April 14th 2019, and that was four days earlier than our previous record which was April 18th 2016," Weir said.
"This year essentially the penguins have beaten their own record, they've laid their eggs and hatched earlier than even recorded in New Zealand."
