Solo dad Raymond was shaking when he first took his two children to stay at Cholmondeley Children's Centre in Christchurch.
But with no family support, he needed help.

It has been more than two years and his two children – Renee, 9, and Dray, 8 – stay at the respite centre for five nights every six weeks.

More than 500 children stay at the largely community-funded Governors Bay centre each year, an unprecedented increase from less than 200 in 2011, which chief executive said could be indicative of the "increasing gap between the rich and the poor".

New Zealanders need to almost halve their number of car trips to satisfactorily improve our health and wellbeing, a new report claims.

The University of Otago report, Turning the Tide - from Cars to Active Transport, has recommended the Government put targets and legislation in place to reduce car use in urban centres from 84 per cent of trips to 45 per cent by 2050.

The report claims two-thirds of car trips made for commuting between 2015 and 2017 were within a comfortable cycling distance (five kilometres or less), while one-third were within a reasonable walking distance (2km or less).

KINDLING FUNDRAISER
As it's cooling down I thought I'd re-post this for my sons.

My sons are off to Australia with their Shirley Boys High cricket team in September and I am making them raise half the cost of their trip.

They have been selling this kindling for a few months now and have sold around 150 boxes with lots of repeat customers who are VERY happy with it.

They have been selling the smaller boxes in the photos for:
1 box =$10
3 boxes = $25
6 boxes = $50 (we can deliver 6 or more boxes)

They only have a few of these smaller boxes left but have been given bigger boxes.

These bigger boxes are:
1 box = $15
2 boxes = $30
3 boxes = $45
4 boxes = $50 (we can deliver 4 or more boxes)

The details are below:
The timber is non treated oregan which we have recycles and cut to length after a landscaper was going to dump them. They can be split in half or used as it is.

They can also be picked up from either Burwood or Harewood (Near Bishopdale)

Its a super cheap price and the oregan burns fast and hot!

They have loads of it all boxed up and ready to go and as mentioned have also sold a lot to very happy people.

First photo is of the small boxes which they have nearly run out of. Next photos are the bigger boxes priced above.

Price: $10
