It is important to have a diagnosis, to ensure nothing else is causing the symptoms. Your GP should be involved.
A common sign could be confusion about the time of day and what is appropriate for that time. They may for example get up and dressed for work at 2am, which not only disrupts their sleep, but that of the person caring for them.
A strategy that may help with this is to use visual cues to re-orientate to time. E.g. point out that it is dark outside or show them a clock and explain that it is 2AM. Offer a cup of tea and a snack, this may allow time for the cues to register and often they will hop back into bed without resistance.
It is important to try not to argue with someone with dementia, which is certainly easier said than done, but remembering it will only escalate the situation may help!
