Pukekohe Community Action

Rachel from Pukekohe

Pukekohe Community Action (PCA) keeps our local community connected through three programmes designed to foster friendship. Friendship for first time parents, grandparents raising grandchildren, caregivers, babies, toddlers, youth and families experiencing grief/loss. It is important Pukekohe’s sense of close community is maintained regardless of how big we grow.In 2018, funds we raise will go toward purchasing manuals and qualifying volunteers to extend our services for grief and loss to the local and prison communities as well as upgrading and purchasing new toys and resources for our playgroups. PCA started in 2012. We welcome everyone and meet very specific needs in our community.
SPACE – connects first time parents, caregivers and their babies in their first year. Our groups are segmented by the baby’s age to best support developmental stages. We provide an environment for relaxed discussion, knowledge building and for our mums and babies to relax.
Oasis – Graduates from SPACE and families from the local area - in particular new members to Franklin are welcome. We meet to play and sing, read stories. It’s a fun environment where parents/caregivers and their toddlers meet to chat and play together.
Seasons for Growth – We help many families through the journey of grief. Reaching out to Pukekohe’s youth and their parents/caregivers offering support and to keep families connected during times of loss through death, separation or other significant event.Feedback from our community is what counts and keeps us driven to deliver what we do.
SPACE “This has helped me to become the mother I am. I am appreciative of the facilitators support, guidance and experience and in particular the way they are not judgemental which allows participants to feel they can be open and speak honestly”.
OASIS “This is a wonderful place for ALL toddlers to come and play. It’s taken a wee while for my son to become familiar with the music and movement session but is this safe environment he is becoming more settled and learning new songs, The familiar routine and friendly faces are a big part of making him feel happy”SEASONS for Growth “Don’t get angry in the wrong place, and everybody is with you always”. Primary School child
“I can’t believe the difference Seasons has made in my son, he’s more relaxed, and we talk about our ups and downs now”. Mother
‘I think it’s helped me a lot. How to speak out of my comfort zone and they helped me be just staying calm and always be happy”. Teenager
“It has helped me work on the more important things, take more care of myself. What will help me be better or do better. It has made me express my real emotions”.www.facebook.com/pukekohecommunity
