South Auckland schools in lockdown
Police are on the scene of an incident in south Auckland that put nearby schools into lockdown.
Emergency services were called to an “assault incident” on Settlement Rd in Papakura around 11.38am on Friday. One person was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.
“As a precaution, several schools and early learning centres in the vicinity of the Settlement Rd area have been placed into a lockdown,” a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said an increased police presence will remain in the area while they work to locate the person responsible for the incident.
Papakura High School alerted parents they were in lockdown in a post on Facebook.
“We will continue to provide updates as often as possible,” the school said.
“Please do not come to school or phone the school as we will be unable to attend to you and this may cause disruption to the management of the situation and could potentially place yourself and /or staff and students’ safety at risk,” it read.
The school said it would update when it was out of lockdown
NZ Herald reported that Papakura Intermediate was another school in lockdown due to the incident. Keep up to date on the Stuff website.
