Elderly man rescued from water by Karaka Bay residents

Caroline Williams Reporter from East & Bays Courier

Residents of secluded Karaka Bay were involved in a "dramatic" water rescue on Thursday after a man in his 80s fell from his dinghy.
Mandy Mott and her husband Richard Mott were looking out to sea from their home when Richard spotted someone distressed in the water.
The couple scrambled to the beach and asked some other locals to take their dinghy out on the water, where they found the man floating, thanks to his life jacket.
When they got back to shore where an ambulance was waiting, the man was pale and his lips were blue.
The man said he had fallen from his dinghy and did not have the strength to get back in and had been in the water for close to an hour. He was taken to hospital and discharged on Friday - with just enough time to thank his rescuers at a party organised by residents in celebration of the rescue (pictured).
