Beware, I think I was Scammed - Pt Chev Countdown

Rochelle from Point Chevalier

... Popped into Countdown Point Chevalier on my way home from work today and as I sat in my car (just parked) I was finishing up a conversation with my partner on the phone (handsfree).

An Indian man, youngish in his 30's, born in Nz I'm guessing... approached me saying that he needed urgent help, he had run out of petrol, no wallet left at work, and he had his partner & three kids in the car. He was panicked, and said he was very embarrassed but could I please help him as the nearby petrol stations wouldn't help him out - he lived in Waimaku and needed to get home.

I said will $5 be enough to get you there, he said ideally $20 would be better....but he would have to ask around to get this....as I had said I didn't have $20 to give him. I found $11 & gave him that. He appeared greatful & offered to give me his personal details.... to pay me back?? I said no, its Okay...

I was fine with this & what I thought was my good deed for the day, right up until I saw his partner counting money & he drove straight past mobil, turned right & from there who knows but certainly not to a nearby petrol station.

Now I feel suspicious & annoyed that I felt sorry for him & what appears to be a scam ☹

Thought I'd put this out there so that you can be aware!
