Now more than ever, the fern seems to best capture the spirit of our country. If we look to our Māori roots, we are reminded of the twist or pikorua which resembles two intertwined pikopiko ferns - a fern known for thriving in dark, damp areas of our woods. A reminder that difficult conditions can actually be an opportunity for tremendous growth.
The entanglement of the pikorua also has no beginning or end which is often used to represent an everlasting bond. Although we are all on our own path in life, in the end we always come back together - we are all connected through our interwoven lives.

BUT I have to say something about this unprofessional medical practice. My 15 year joined there as close to home and the experiences we have had are actually quite unbelievable for a health service. Just a few examples, having to wait 40 mins for doctor (not the issue as this sometimes can't be helped) but then having the doctor say he couldn't do something in that appt as he was running late so had to cut our appointment short! And telling us to make another appt. or booking in with nurse at reception, turning up for appt and being told not booked with nurse as nurse didn't work that day. Or waiting for a referral to be done by the GP for a specialist appt and ringing 4 times over a period of 3 weeks to keep asking for it despite reception marking it urgent and putting in front of his nose. Finally got done when I said I was going to come down there and wait outside his room until he did it. There's never a nurse on, they've all left. Ringing for blood test results which they don't have, so make appt with GP after couple of weeks, where GP says just go across to lab tests and ask for them! I said how about you ring them while we're sitting here paying for your time. Having to do my own recall for my child's follow up blood tests after coming back abnormal. These guys are in pursuit of unethical and unsafe practice. Transfer to another practice underway. Rant over.
