Life lost in Puhinui Rd. Car accident

One dead, one critically injured after car hits fence in south Auckland
One person has died and another is critically injured after a car crashed into a fence in south Auckland on Sunday night.

Emergency services responded to the crash in Puhinui Rd, Papatoetoe, about 9.30pm.

Both people were "heavily trapped", and had to be pulled from the car, a Fire Service spokesman said.

The critically injured person was taken to Middlemore Hospital.

Motorists are asked to avoid the Puhinui Rd motorway entry/exit.

A police spokesperson said the serious crash unit would investigate the cause of the crash.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
