Poll: Should our voting age be lowered to 16?

Ashleigh Ogden from Neighbourly.co.nz

On Monday, 21 November, the Supreme Court ruled that preventing 16 and 17-year-olds from voting is 'unjustified age discrimination'.

The current age of voting is 18 in New Zealand and lobby group Make It 16 have been running a youth-led campaign advocating for the vote to be extended to our 16 and 17-year-olds.

“This is history,” said Make It 16 co-director Caeden Tipler. “Today New Zealand’s highest court has confirmed that stopping young people from voting is a breach of our human rights...The government and Parliament cannot ignore such a clear legal and moral message. They must let us vote.”

Rush hour winds on Harbour Bridge

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

NZTA has shared a warning about the Harbour Bridge for this afternoon.

What you need to know:
- Drivers in Auckland will need to take extra care on the Auckland Harbour Bridge this afternoon (Monday 4 March) with heavy wind gusts predicted between 4pm and 6pm.
- It is likely that speed limits may be reduced and some lanes on the bridge may close if wind gusts reach threshold levels.
- The bridge will remain in a 4 x 4 formation during the afternoon peak.
- Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions and look out for the electronic message boards which will indicate lane closures and reduced speeds, and stay within their lane while travelling across the bridge.
- Drivers of high sided vehicles and motorcyclists are advised to avoid the Auckland Harbour Bridge and use the western ring route on State Highways 16 and 18.
