Police are warning drivers across Tāmaki Makarau to be on the lookout for dodgy tow truck drivers following several incidents in the past few months.

Motorists are being warned of a small group of people pretending to be tow truck drivers, committing crimes by using unregistered tow trucks to pick up vehicles.

Sergeant Suzannah Kimber, Counties Manukau Police, says the group steals vehicles by pretending to legitimately tow them before disposing of the vehicles.
“Recently these offenders towed a member of the public’s vehicle in plain sight.
“Members of the public drove past this tow truck while they were loading it up as it just looked normal.
“They even go as far as wearing high-visibility clothing.”

Sergeant Kimber says Police are taking the opportunity to remind the community that all tow trucks will have external sign writing with the company name and be able to produce their logbook if asked.
“They also must be registered as a transport operator.
“If you see a tow truck without any distinguishing features towing cars, please call Police immediately.”

What you need to know:
- The recall is involving Christmas-themed duvets: Mrs & Mrs Claus Reversible Queen Size Bed Quilt Cover Set and Christmas Elf Reversible Single Bed Quilt Cover Set
- A recall of the products began in Australia following health concerns from several families.
- One woman said she thought she was having a heart attack after using one of the products which smelt of diesel.
- One customer said she’d purchased the quilt covers and said they smelled like gas. Another mum said hers did not have that smell but claimed her son developed a rash that only went away when he stopped using the product.
- The product is no longer available for purchase on the Kmart website.

Regardless of whether you have experienced an issue, customers who have purchased this item may return the product to store for a refund.

When parents argue frequently or are in high-conflict relationships, children often experience stress and emotional turmoil. This environment can lead to feelings of insecurity, anxiety, and depression. Children may internalize the conflict, blaming themselves or feeling powerless to change the situation. Over time, this can impact their social development and behavior, leading to difficulties in school and with peers. Constant exposure to tension can also affect a child’s ability to form healthy relationships in the future. Additionally, parental conflict can disrupt the stability of the home, further heightening feelings of uncertainty and fear. Mental health issues stemming from parental conflict can persist into adulthood if not addressed. Early intervention, such as counseling and support for both parents and children, is crucial. Promoting healthy communication and conflict resolution skills can mitigate these negative effects and support better mental health outcomes for children.

The Sacred Spring of Waiora

A sacred spring hidden in the forest was said to have healing powers but was tapu (restricted) to those with ill intent. One day, a chief's child fell ill, and the community approached the spring with prayers and offerings, guided by a tohunga (spiritual leader). Through their humility and respect for the tapu, the child was healed. The spring remained sacred, but the balance of noa (everyday access) allowed it to serve as a source of hope for the people.

Moral: Respect for sacredness maintains balance and harmony between the spiritual and physical worlds.
