Rubbish disposal
As we all become more aware of our environment and the misuse of plastic bags, I would encourage Northshore residents to think about the use of plastic rubbish collection bags. While they land up eventually in the landfill, which itself causes no adverse environmental effect, I still see bags ripped by birds, dogs, cats etc. This means the contents is sprawled across the street before the truck even arrives. A lot of that rubbish, including plastic, is then washed down the stormwater and into the sea, before the truck arrives. We have better alternatives like wheelie bins, so I encourage you to think further than the cheapest option for your pocket. Think of the best option for us all. Thanks

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
