City centre celebrates CHINESE Lunar New Year, with a Pan-Asian flair

Brian from Mount Roskill

We’re joining millions of others round the world to celebrate Lunar New Year between 10 and 25 February 2024. This Pan-Asian tradition will take on a modern edge in Auckland with street parties, pride festivities, panel discussions, restaurant specials, and a karaoke competition!
When the first new moon appears in our skies in 2024, the Lunar New Year will descend on Auckland’s city centre streets, squares and spaces carrying with it the rich colours, sounds, tastes, traditions and beats of Asia.
Auckland Council invites you to celebrate with our Asian communities and businesses who make up a growing part of the cultural fabric and economy of our region.
Some of the highlights;
Lunar New Year Lanterns | Wednesday 7- Sunday 25 February
Queen Street, Fort Street, Albert Street, Elliott Street, Lorne Street, High Street
Over 160 larger than life lanterns will adorn city centre streets for Lunar New Year. The rich red decorations are an auspicious Chinese symbol of wealth and prosperity.
To find out about all the decorations that you can check out during Lunar New Year visit here (still being populated by the team but will include all AC decorations as well -will share with you and the team as soon as completed)
Brought to you by Heart of the City

But for some, jury service can be a huge disruption and a financial burden. Do you think changes could be made to our jury service system to address these challenges?

Weather warnings for Auckland

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Thunderstorms and strong wind are taking place in Auckland today.

Here's what you need to know:
- A period of severe gale southwesterlies is expected in Auckland and MetService have issued a severe thunderstorm watch and an orange strong wind warning.
- Air NZ is contacting customers booked to fly in and out of Auckland this afternoon, warning of potential flight disruptions due to strong winds forecast to hit the city.
- NZTA warn of strong winds between 10am-12pm today so the Harbour Bridge will have lane reductions, reduced speeds and a 4x4 lane layout. Caution is especially needed for motorcyclists and trucks. NZTA said "Today there is also a possibility that all lanes on the bridge could close temporarily."
- Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.

Be safe, neighbours!
