WATTLE DOWNS GOLF COURSE - update from Manager
Hi and happy Auckland Anniversary Weekend to you all.
There are a couple of important notices the course Manager would like to update below.
Monday Auckland Anniversary Day, don’t forget to book a tee time as we expect to be busy. The men’s division are holding a cash haggle, so be here before 11am to make up fours.
The office is open from 7am, with the clubhouse bar and pizzeria open from 12 noon. Happy Hour from 2-4pm with Robbie Wikaira King playing/singing Old School Music from 3pm. Closing time is subject to patronage.
As of Wednesday 30th January, until further notice I am closing the third hole to give the green an opportunity to recover. My members deserve the best that we can offer, with what we have. With this in mind we will be playing the practice hole as 9A and 18A. The score cards as of Wednesday (all going to plan) will reflect these changes with the 3rd and 12th not showing on the cards. Please keep off the 3rd green. I know it is tempting. When playing 9A and 18A, please allow the group on the hole/green to walk off the hole completely before teeing off. When walking from the 9A and 18A green back towards the clubhouse and 10th tee, DO NOT walk in front of the 9th/18th green.
Ladies Opening Day is Wednesday 30th January. 9 hole ambrose teeing off from 9am. Be here by 8.30am Ladies. Twilight golf in the afternoon from 3-6pm all welcome.
Our Mens Captains Pennant team are playing Titirangi at Chamberlain Park while our Interclub Division III men’s Pennant team is playing at Wattle Downs on Sunday 3rd February, teeing off from 8:36am playing Akarana #2. The other clubs playing here are Windross Farm, Remuera #2, Formosa, Whitford Park #2, Waiuku and Howick. Come on down and support our boys.
My staff and I always do our best for our members and guests at all times. We take our positons here seriously and that includes your care and wellbeing while here along with the care of the golf course. If you have any feedback, talk to me. I am approachable, and I will listen. Please don’t yell at me, don’t speak badly to or of my staff.
Service of alcohol will be cut should we deem it necessary. Pre loading before coming down to the club is frowned upon. We will not tolerate bad, rude, offensive behaviour and language from any member or visitor. Man or woman. This is a family friendly environment.
At the end of the day, the game of golf and your time at Wattle Downs Golf Course is meant to be fun and enjoyable. Let’s keep it that way :-)
Have a fantastic weekend. We hope to see many of you over the next three days.

By-election for Otara-Papatoetoe area
Just to let everyone know that we have another by-election happening, and here is the reason why. Below are details and dates, so keep an eye on your letter boxes.
The Manukau Court’s Ruling
The Manukau District Court determined that the Papatoetoe subdivision result of the Ōtara–Papatoetoe Local Board election was invalid, ruling that the outcome had been “materially affected” by voting irregularities. Judge Richard McIlraith found that the scale and nature of the irregularities met the legal threshold required to void an election under New Zealand’s local electoral laws.
In his decision, Judge McIlraith stated that the evidence presented — including reports of stolen voting papers, fraudulent use of ballots, and other procedural irregularities — was sufficient to conclude that the integrity of the election had been compromised. The court noted that at least 79 voting papers were identified as having been cast without the rightful voter’s knowledge during a judicially supervised examination of ballot boxes.
While the judge acknowledged that the election had been administered “properly and in accordance with all requirements” by Independent Election Services and the electoral officer, he concluded that the fraudulent activity originated outside the official process and nonetheless impacted the final result to a degree that required the election to be voided.
As a result of the ruling, the court ordered that a new election must be held, with Auckland Council confirming that the fresh poll must be completed by 9 April 2026
Poll: 🗑️ Would you be keen to switch to a fortnightly rubbish collection, or do you prefer things as they are?
Aucklanders, our weekly rubbish collections are staying after councillors voted to scrap a proposed trial of fortnightly pick-ups.
We want to hear from you: would you be keen to switch to a fortnightly rubbish collection, or do you prefer things as they are?
Keen for the details? Read up about the scrapped collection trial here.
