We Say/You Say: Should the Hauraki Gulf be protected?

Reporter North Shore Times

Kia ora neighbours,

A new poll released by the Hauraki Gulf Forum has found there is overwhelming public support for more measures to protect and restore the Hauraki Gulf/Tīkapa Moana.

Of over 1000 respondents, 81% said they love and have a very strong attachment to the Gulf, including its beaches, shorelines and islands. The greatest public concerns for the health of the Gulf are plastics (73% of respondents said this had the most negative impact), sewage (72%), chemicals (70%), and commercial fishing (63%).

Methods proposed to protect the Gulf include planting all waterways, re-establishing lost shellfish-beds and reefs, and banning fishing methods such as dredging and bottom-trawling that damage the sea-floor. 84% of respondents supported these actions, with less than 3% in opposition.

Do you love being in/around the Gulf, and do you think it should be protected? Share your thoughts below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment featured in the conversations section of the North Shore Times.

Poll: Are Kiwis bad drivers?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Each country has its own idiosyncrasies when it comes to driving and New Zealand is no different.
With daily near-misses, people incorrectly indicating at roundabouts and a lack of stopping at stop signs, it begs the question: Are Kiwis actually not that good at driving?

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.

CALL TO ACTION ** CHECK YOUR SHED**$100 Reward**

Daniele from Unsworth Heights

To our beautiful Neighbours. We need your help!

Attached is a photo of our cat Coco. He’s been missing since Wednesday night. And we need your help to find him.

If you have a shed that may have been open on Wednesday last week. But you haven’t opened since, there’s a chance this beautiful big kitten is dying of dehydration in it.

He’s pure black short haired male with a little tiny bit of white fur on his chest. 1 1/2 years old. Medium lean size. And very loving and friendly.

No collar, but has been ID chipped.

Location: Palm hill reserve area. Grenadine place side.
But as you know they can wander, so to everyone in Unsworth Heights, this is a call to you.

If you see him or have seen him over the last few days, please contact me asap.

Our families hearts are breaking with the thought that we might not get him back. Coco brings great comfort to each of us after a hard day. We love him so much. We’re willing to pay a $100 reward to anyone that finds him.

So please check your garages/sheds or anywhere on your property he could be.

By banding together on this search will not only increase our chances of getting him back. But will bring our community closer together. I say this because my family and I, have been blessed over the last few days, while walking the streets and talking to people in our community. Blessed with the love and support from you.

So a big Thank you to everyone that has been supporting us.
Love your work! God bless you!

So please check your sheds, your neighbours sheds. Let’s do this together.

Yours sincerely
Daniele
