Business owner helps victims of tyre-slashing spree

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Did you have your tyres slashed in the latest vandalism spree? An Auckland tyre shop owner is offering to fix for free, or replace at cost, tyres slashed in a vandalism spree on the North Shore.

More than 20 vehicles parked on Tiri Tiri Rd and Woodhams St in Birkdale had tyres destroyed late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. One resident said the cars with flat tyres spanned all the way from the top to bottom of Tiri Tiri Rd, which was about 300 metres long.

Dan Jordan, owner of VIP Wheel & Tyre in Hillcrest reached out to the community via social media on Thursday, offering to fix any repairable tyres for free or replace any tyres as cheaply as he could.

Police were actively conducting scene and forensic examinations and encouraged anyone with information to call Sergeant Andrew Hawkins on (09) 477 5261.

Alternatively, information could be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
