Labour's Jin An said her opinions on crime have been shaped by spending a "fair bit" of time in criminal courts.
She said crime was a result of a number of social failings including poverty, inequality and a broken down health service.
National Party candidate Paula Bennett, the current minister of police, said while crime has been decreasing since 2008, a "slight" increase has occurred in the past two years.
Do you think crime is a big concern in your neighbourhood?

Does Dad suffer from low back pain, achy joints, sore feet, shoulders screaming, or simply STRESSED out from work? Does Dad just soldier on and put up with it?
Psssst...what if he doesn't need to anymore! We can help! We have 3 spots available this Sunday at Hobsonville Clinic to see if Dad would actually try massage therapy to reduce those aches and pains or stress he is feeling and we bet he will FEEL much better. It can be so hard putting up with pain or a high work load that just does not stop!! It really affects you mentally as well as physically. You may already notice he is not able to do the things he enjoys?
We make no promises of a cure, but we do make a promise that together we can assist in getting Dad some pain relief or some time out. Massage therapy is so underrated and we have had Dad's leave us feeling so much better and glad they had found massage therapy to assist them. We make sure we listen to Dad's story and how it affects him in his daily life, we look to address those specific areas to provide relief and calm everything down, making it less sensitive and sore. Do you think your Dad would benefit? It could be a neat father's day pressie I bet! Give Dad an opportunity to experience what a professional massage therapy session can do for him this Sunday. $10 off for first time appointments! Book online at www.topnotchmassage.co.nz...
