The New Zealand herald recently released horrific footage of the inhumane and cruel use of the captive bolt method to euthanize dogs in the pound in Invercargill. Despite public outrage and a demand to stop this brutality the council continue to euthanize dogs this way because the MPI said it was “acceptable”
I spoke to the MPI at length and was informed this was because the pound is not breaking the law and that they met the “minimum” required standard.
The law is outdated and in desperate need of updating and we have been advised by the MPI to pursue this with NAWAC. The council also claimed the SPCA gave their approval but this is not the case at all. The SPCA have released a statement to confirm this and are working behind the scenes to help stop this brutality.
There is a petition on change.org that will be taken to every relevant authority including Parliament. Please sign it so we can stop this cruelty. I know we are a civilised, compassionate dog loving nation that would never support this inhumane behaviour. I have provided the link below:

Please sign to show your support and help us change the law
Thank you
