Red Cross Good & Ready Week Disaster Preparation

Brigitte from Remuera

New Zealand Red Cross
Hi everyone,
I'm Brigitte, community activator for the Auckland Red Cross. Last week was Good and Ready Week and New Zealand Red Cross is encouraging everyone to get involved and be prepared in case a disaster strikes 💪

Download the FREE New Zealand Red Cross Hazard app to help you and your family prepare for and help you get through emergencies in New Zealand.

It provides life-saving information before, during and after emergencies, sending official warnings and alerts, and providing step-by-step guides to help households get ready for emergencies 🚨

Preloaded content provides instant access to all preparedness information, even without cell phone reception or an internet connection

Being prepared for a disaster reduces our vulnerability and helps save lives. Get to know your neighbours and your community. Remember your neighbour could be your first responder in an emergency.

Red Cross aims to be NZ’s primary partner in Preparation, Response & Recovery in disasters.
Ask yourself:
“Is my household Good and Ready in case of earthquake, fire, flood or other disaster?”

Find out more to get alerts for your local area:
www.redcross.org.nz...
or download the App 👉 fal.cn...
Feel free to get in touch to hear more about our Good & Ready Program or if you are interested in being a volunteer.
Take care everyone.
Brigitte

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
