A F Thomas Park Golf Update

John Gillon from

You may have seen a couple of different proposals for the golf course area at A.F. Thomas Park. One is from Takapuna Golf for an 18 hole course; another is from Golf Warehouse for a 9 hole course with other recreational activities. Both proposals work around the wetland that council (Healthy Waters) has already decided to create at the park to help store stormwater and minimise future flooding downstream in Milford. The stormwater part of the project will take up to 2 years to complete and will reshape most of the park, leading to the question about what to do with the rest of the park.

This coming Wednesday, the Kaipātiki Local Board will be deciding on which recreational options to include or exclude in the public consultation that will happen in late October. It won't be a choice between the two golf proposals, but instead will be asking you what activities you would like to have at the park. And if golf rates highly, then in March next year, the Local Board may choose to invite applications for a new golf course, at which time Takapuna Golf and Golf Warehouse would be welcome to submit their proposals.
For me, it is important at this stage to keep all options on the table (inc 18-hole golf) and formally hear from the public what recreation they would like to see at the park.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
