Freedom Camping Newsflash 1: Little Shoal Bay

John Gillon from

The Freedom Camping Bylaw Hearing Panel have decided to change the recommendation for the Dudding Sportsfield carpark at Little Shoal Bay from Allowed to Prohibited! This is a fantastic win for the community who submitted overwhelmingly to prohibit freedom camping due to a range of concerns including the regular flooding of the site.
HOWEVER one of the members of the hearing panel, Tau Henere, walked out on the hearing process after stating that he had changed his mind on freedom camping in general and was now opposed to it! He then took offence to a comment from Chair Linda Cooper that he'd supported freedom camping while in government. The hearing deliberation process continued without him.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
