A scary moment which made my stomach turn!
My daughter left her mirror close to the window which reflected the sunlight on to her bookshelf. The condensed rays burnt a hole through one of her favourite books, but amazingly it didn't appear to combust into a flame. I would never have thought a misplaced mirror could have the potential to burn our house down.
Served as a timely reminder to test the smoke alarms and check the insurance is up to date!!
I love our boys and girls at the East Coast Bays Volunteer Fire Brigade but am glad they didn't need to visit us today.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
