New T3 transit lane confirmed for Birkenhead Ave - 2021/22

John Gillon from

New T3 transit lane confirmed for Birkenhead Ave - 2021/22:
Thankyou to every one who gave feedback to Auckland Transport last year on their proposal for a T3 lane and pedestrian crossing on Birkenhead Ave.
There has been one main change since the original proposal, and that is to reduce the length of the T3 lane so that it now ends immediately to the north of Zion Road. This will allow increased distance for drivers to access their required lane.

See AT's responses to other feedback and suggestions here: at.govt.nz...

To support the transit lane, on-street parking will be removed along the opposite (western) side of the road, as there would no longer be sufficient road-width available to accommodate it.

A signalised pedestrian crossing will be installed outside 129 Birkenhead Ave, and the existing pedestrian refuge crossing outside 147 Birkenhead Ave will be removed.

AT now expect the construction to occur in 2021/22 (depending on budget). The changes will then be reviewed for their effectiveness within 12 months.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
