It was spotted and reported by a local resident out walking her dog. Council fenced off the site and are investigating the cause. Preliminary inspection indicates that the sinkhole occurred on top of a large corrugated iron pipe which is showing incorrectly in Council's system as a concrete pipe. CCTV inspections are underway.
Please take care in the area and don't go through the fence.
Here is a photo montage supplied by the contractor.

It wasn't long ago that this was a hidden park, and I remember stumbling upon it when I was a kid and not being able to find it again! But work over the last couple of years has widened and enhanced the main Moore Street entrance, and the new sign with map will ensure that this park is no longer hidden!
This park has a lot to offer and is treasured by the local Monarch Park Place Making Project group, who have worked with the Kaipatiki Local Board on ideas and improvements for the park. There are lots of things for children to find in this park, including a natural play area, resident fairy, little library, mosaic tiles, ornaments, and there are future plans for a nature trail.
A big thanks to Project Manager Julie Crabb for pushing the toilet and signage through for the Local Board. And also thanks also to contractors Zac and Dave who have been out installing these and the new signs at Shepherds Park.

Last week the Kaipatiki Local Board approved a 24/7 liquor ban at Downing St Domain, Glenfield, after reviewing evidence of disorder at the park, and hearing from Snr Constable Paul Donaldson of the Police.
The new liquor ban will enable the police to deal with anyone who is drinking or causing issues in the park while under the influence of alcohol.
For many years, there have been shopping trolleys dumped in the park after transporting liquor. I recently counted 14 trolleys throughout the park, including dumped in the stream. There are also often beer cans, bottles, and broken glass around the pergola area, and has been regular damage to the seats, pergola, and rubbish bins.

Why can't we have public transport like Sydney? (We can, but...)

This could affect many houses in the Birkenhead Point, Northcote Point and Devonport areas, as well as many others across Auckland.
However, the letter to inform residents is not easy to understand, and has been sent in the middle of the consultation period, leaving many without much time to submit.
At the Kaipātiki Local Board meeting on Wednesday, we passed a unanimous motion requesting Council to extend the consultation period. This followed two presentations from the public requesting an extension, as well as numerous correspondence requesting an extension.
The current submission deadline is 28 June.

I'm very happy that on Wednesday, the Kaipatiki Local Board approved the concept design and funding for the rebuild of the Kaipātiki Project Environment Centre building at 17 Lauderdale Road :)
The new Green Building will replace the existing leaking building in the same location in Lauderdale Reserve, adjacent to the nursery.
The design is the culmination of a huge amount of work by a steering group that the Local Board established in 2017, that included the Kaipātiki Project manager and staff, architects, iwi representative and council staff.
I'm looking forward to the opening already!
