Two bus services being trialled in Rodney have proved successful.

Auckland Transport (AT) has confirmed it will fund Route 126 (between Westgate and Coatesville) and Route 998 (Wellsford to Warkworth) from May, 2022.

Both runs are meeting patronage targets, AT said.

The services are part of a programme of transport improvements funded by the Rodney Local Board Transport Targeted Rate.

The programme features more than $40 million of improvements in the Rodney district including new footpaths, bus stops and extra buses.

Rodney Local Board chair Phelan Pirrie said the board was glad to be able to keep investing in transport during a difficult time.

“It was a tough call for the local board to set up this targeted rate and to focus on new bus services. But the community consistently told us that local transport infrastructure and services are important to them - so we’re glad to be able to deliver on our promises.”

Auckland's Harbour Bridge will shimmer yellow this week to mark Road Safety Week.

The Yellow Ribbon Alliance, a group of firms raising awareness of road trauma, is promoting use of the colour to highlight road safety.

Road Safety Week participants can show their support by wearing yellow or donning a yellow ribbon pin.

Members of the public are invited to go yellow to show their support.

Organisations will be reminding drivers to stick below the speed limit, especially around schools and communities, and to adhere to the 20 km/h limit for passing a school bus.

School students are busy making posters reminding drivers to slow down, and will be dressed in yellow.

In its 10th year, the annual week will focus on speed with the Streets for Life theme.

More than 80,000 speed notices were issued around schools last year.

One in four people killed on New Zealand roads were in a crash where someone drove too fast for the conditions.

Speeding was a contributing factor in 79 fatal crashes and 424 serious injury crashes last year.

In 2020, more than 4000 speed notices and more than 80,000 speed camera notices were issued for offences near schools during school hours.

Hi everyone, I want to open up a discussion...

A year ago, my mate Nathan and I were talking about our passions. Mine was climbing and his was home brewing. He recounted his struggles when he first started brewing - The lack of guidance and scattered information was overwhelming and he almost quit after a few failed attempts. As a designer and a person passionate about helping others find their passions, I wanted home brewing to be the first community I help grow based on what I've heard.

Since then, I've personally created a few brews! With Nathan by my side, my now business partner, none have failed (Yaay!). Perhaps I should have done them myself to understand the pain beginners feel... but what it taught me was how straightforward brewing could be. Yet, during the course of my brewing journey, 2 of my friends failed their first batch and gave up.

Nathan and I have created Brewers Clan - A digital platform that helps beginner home brewers brew right the first time. We’re currently in the discovery phase and have built a few features to further discover pains points.

If you’re a beginner home brewer, what are you struggling with?

For established home brewers, what are the most common beginner mistakes you all run into?

If you're keen, join our waitlist for a guided brewing experience once we launch:

It’s a time for fine-tuning your skills and pushing the boundaries, catching up with your mates and heading off on new adventures at the drop of a hat! No, we’re not talking about your 20s, we’re talking about your retirement.

Ross’ retirement saw the beginning of his musical journey where his passion quickly evolved from making music, to crafting guitars. It all started when Ross and some mates joined a music group where the camaraderie and togetherness were just as important as the music.

Living in a Ryman village, Ross can continue living life to the full in his retirement because they are places where you don’t retire from life, you find a new way to live .
