Insurance money and Lotteries funding are paying for repairs and strengthening work for some, but the council wants to discuss the future use of others (such as community halls) before any decisions are made.
A district-wide rate implemented last year will go towards future work, but external funding will be needed to keep the rate burden as low as possible, council chief strategy and community officer Judith Batchelor says.
"Many of these buildings are very important to their communities and we want those communities to be involved in shaping the outcome."

Kenneth McCaul was driving his Hyundai Grandeur when he was T-boned at the intersection of Glandovey and Idris roads in Fendalton, Christchurch, about 4am on Tuesday. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.
Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends and with those of the others injured in this terrible incident.
