The crash happened at the corner of Salisbury Street and Colombo Street on 2 April, after which the driver of the car fled the scene on foot.
The victim suffered a suspected cracked rib, some damaged ligaments and bad bruising, while his passenger received whiplash as a result.

Christchurch had one of its wettest days on record … View moreA local state of emergency is still in place for Christchurch, Banks Peninsula and the flood-hit Selwyn district. While rain has been easing there's concern over surface flooding in Selwyn District and closed roads in Banks Peninsula. Christchurch had one of its wettest days on record yesterday.
Here's what you need to know this morning:
Civil Defence Emergency Management Canterbury say:
- The weather has eased overnight but we have had record amounts of rain in some areas. Daylight is going to give a clearer idea of the impact of the last 48 hours, and we will update you with key information as the day unfolds.
- A reminder to please stay safe, look after one another and check in on your neighbours.
Please note:
- Selwyn, Christchurch and Banks Peninsula remain under a state of emergency.
- There is significant impact to the roading network, a number of roads remain closed across the region including State Highway 75 to Banks Peninsula.
- Banks Peninsula is currently isolated. A helicopter flyover of is scheduled for this morning, to assess the damage.
- Contractors will be out at first light in other areas affected across the region to check on conditions and we will keep you updated.
What you need to do:
- Please respect cordons and road closures and avoid driving through flood waters. It can be deeper than it looks, contain debris and the condition of the road can be affected.
- Follow the guidance of the teams out in the field, who will keep you updated with the latest throughout the day.
- Be vigilant, this level of ground saturation can cause trees to fall and landslides after the rain has stopped.

Police remind motorists who can travel, to:
- Watch your following distance - it takes longer to stop in the rain.
- Headlights on - make yourself visible to other drivers.
- Be patient as road detours/closures may be in place.

Do you have a toaster that's lost its spark? Is your bicycle gathering dust in the garage? Don't toss them out just yet!
We're excited to announce our May Repair Café, where we're giving new life to your ageing or broken items at the ReDiscover Education Centre based at the Pines Resource Recovery Park on Burnham School Road on Saturday 24th May from 10am.
We aim to have skilled volunteers on hand to help repair a variety of items, from bikes to electronics, clothing to household appliances, and more. Here's what we're planning:
-Electrical & Electronics including, Household Appliances
- Jewellery repairs
- Clothing
- General Repairs
- Scissor and Knife Sharpening (Max 1-2, sorry no garden tools)
Please Register:
To help us help you, please register for this free event. Provide a brief description of the issue and the item(s) you need repairing. This way, our volunteer repairers can come prepared with the right tools and parts. We would appreciate it if items were brought in no later than 1 PM to give our repairers time to take a look. If you haven’t registered you can still come along on the day.

Sadly our bike repair specialist won't be able to join us at this month's Repair Café, we're excited to announce we'll have a skilled volunteer offering jewellery repairs! 💍
🚲 For those with bicycle repairs, we've scheduled our next Repair Café in October with our bike specialist back in action.
All other repair stations (electronics, clothing, general items, and knife sharpening) will be available as planned on Saturday, May 24th!
