Hey Neighbourly folk, you will have seen that Luamanuvao Dame Winne Laban DNZM QSO won a Lifetime Achievement Award for Women of Influence 2020.
Among those who have paid tribute, is Cr Keri Brown.
"It's a very fitting award for her leadership and influence across New Zealand, and the pathway she created for many Pacific and Maori wahine to follow. We are very rich in Wainuiomata, to have such inspirational and strong leadership such as Dame Winnie. Luamanuvao Winnie Laban."
Luamanuvao Dame Winifred Alexandra Laban is a former New Zealand politician. She served as the Member of Parliament for the Mana electorate, representing the Labour Party, and was the Labour Party's spokesperson for Pacific Island Affairs and for interfaith dialogue.
Her family came to Wainuiomata from Samoa in the 1950s.
