Representatives from FMG Insurance / Federated Farmers / Police are holding a Crime Prevention meeting at Arohena Hall.
Arohena and Wharepapa South people have been very proactive in bringing their 2 communities together. They have put a lot of their time and money into making Neighbourhood Support work and installing their own CCTV systems. Come along to the meeting and lets see how these representatives maybe able to enhance the efforts made by people in these communities.

Te Kowhai

Does anyone know a Rannit Singh who may have lost or had stolen an orange notebook with the Skinny Mobile logo on the front cover? The notes in the book are about Union rules and collective agreements. Someone has scrawled 'Westside' over the notes.

This book was retrieved by the Te Kowhai Dairy owner when 4 youths entered his store on Friday 1 November, helped themselves to armfuls of drinks, food and ice creams then ran from the store. The owner tackled one young chap but then his mates turned their vehicle around and tried to run the Dairy owner over so they all managed to get away. Police were called but did not attend. We do not have a description of the vehicle but we do have video footage of the offenders inside the store.

It must be near on 2 years now since the Te Kowhai Community Group did a survey to see if CCTV was wanted in the village. There was a very poor response to the survey and so nothing has been done. Since the survey we have had 2 x Home invasions. Valuable vehicles stolen, Burglaries and how many times has the Te Kowhai Dairy suffered armed robberies and burglaries? How long are you people going to put up with this?

Commsafe is only too happy to attend a public meeting and bring police with them to explain the advantages of CCTV and dispel any myths or preconceived ideas citizens may harbour. We can also tell you how well the CCTV is working in Arohena and Wharepapa South.

Ngahinapouri

Thursday 24 October we had some residents on Kakaramea Road advise that at 7.30am they found a chap aged between 40 - 50yrs about 6ft tall, carrying a small backpack, standing outside their shed. He said that he was waiting to get picked up. That seemed strange. Why was he not waiting out on the road if that was the case. He asked to use the phone and once this was accomplished he left after asking if the residents needed any painting done. There is some confusion as to whether the gentleman was wearing a white tee shirt and blue jeans spattered in paint at the time or if he was wearing painter's overalls. The residents checked their shed and nothing appeared missing but items appeared to have been moved.

We now understand there have been further incidents in the area similar to this one. We are looking at Kakaramea Road near the Berker Road intersection for this 1st incident.

Hams Road

Still in that Ngahinapouri area.

Local residents had noticed a gold car parked up in their road for about 3 days around 1st of November time. Around the same time a local resident, whose property is well off the road, found that he was missing $300.00 worth of waratah stakes from behind his garage. They ranged in size 1.8 and 1.5 metres

Then this past weekend we had people in a black and grey Mitsubishi Delica van registration starting with KGM traveling up neighbors driveways in Hams Road, asking if anyone knew where Dean Anderson lived. They drove past the main house on one driveway and past the implement shed to a smaller house on the same property, to make their inquiry.

Waikeria Road

Friday 8 November at 1800 hours a white ute is seen being driven up various driveways. It travelled up to a farmer's house which is some 100 metres off of the roadway. As soon as the vehicles occupants saw someone was at home they drove off in a big hurry. The farmer attempted to follow them but to no avail. Registration plates on the vehicle were deliberately obscured

Kaipaki - Parallel Road area

Similar occurrence to the above. Two occupants in a silver double cab Ford Courier Ute registration WY3861, drive up long driveway 8/11/19 at 6.30am and try to steal a dirt bike from the workshop on the property. They are caught in the act. They left. They were chased by the owner but again to no avail. One guy was wearing a black hoodie the other had a black cap and pants and a green top.

Te Awamutu

Elderly lady living on her own in Reynolds Road receives a knock on the door at 8.30pm on Friday 8/11/19. Young lady asks to come inside and is told, no. Young lady says she is looking for number 66 Reynolds and Elderly lady says this is not 66. Young woman asks to come inside again, then says that the people in the front house had said that elderly ladies house was number 66. Young lady does not get to go inside the house and so she leaves. Elderly lady rings her front neighbour and neighbor says they have not spoken to anyone.

We think elderly lady may well have dodged a bullet. Certainly did the right thing by refusing to allow the young lady to enter her house.

Interesting statistics

In N.Z every 5 minutes there is a family violence incident attended to by police. This takes up 41% of a front line Constable's duty time.

76% of family violence incidents are NOT reported to police.

A Question

If, in a civil defense emergency you needed to leave your home, where would your nearest Civil Defense assembly area be?

If, like us, you said local school, you would be wrong.

We will give the correct answer next newsletter.

Thanks folks

Horotiu Road Snaffler Caught!!!!!

A helper from Te Kowhai Community Group

A couple of weeks ago we mentioned that a young lady who had just shifted into a house in Horotiu Rd. Te Kowhai was burgled the same night she shifted in. Te Kowhai was burgled the same night she shifted in. Offenders rifled through her car first and then entered the house where she was asleep. They stole her wedding ring set, $200.00 cash, laptop computer, cellphone, clothing, wallet. Offender later used her eftpos card to steal more money using the pay- wave facility.
The good news is that Police were able to track one offender down in Whakatane and arrest him for receiving the eftpos card. He would not admit to anything else. A receiving charge actually carries a better penalty than a theft or burglary charge anyway so guess that is something. We understand there is a Huntly connection to this burglary as well.

Stolen Survey Equipment
Within a very short time of emailing our last news letter, where we mentioned a Surveyor's GPS base set and tripod being stolen from Long Swamp on the Waikato Expressway at 1.30pm on a Thursday, we were contacted by a lady who advised that her husband's identical survey gear was stolen in a similar fashion when surveying in the Peacock Road area of Hamilton only a few weeks before. (gee thats a long sentence)
We then contacted the Intel Section at Hamilton Police to advise of the 2 separate offenses so they could marry them up and check if there was a possible pattern forming. We understand from the surveyors they have since found that more tripods and GPS equipment has
been stolen from other parts of the country of late.

Puahue
Yet another galvanised tandem axle car transport trailer, registration K765R stolen from an address on Puahue Road on Thursday 24 October. Unfortunately the hedge around this property had recently been cut down in order to erect a wooden fence and so the trailer was visible from the road. It was stolen sometime between 7am and 3.45pm. CCTV footage from the school suggest that the offenders drove off in direction of Chamberlain Road. There was a hand winch and spare wheel and a rusty bar at the front of the trailer. The former two items covered with a red canvas cover. Offenders had cut the locks on the trailer.

Earle Road Pukeatua
Friday 25 October between 10am and 3pm a Honda Duster 150cc farm bike stolen from the front yard of a Farm Manager's home situated between the intersection with Arapuni Road and number 80 Earle Road. Neighbours did see an unfamiliar vehicle driving into various driveways that day but we have no description of that vehicle. It would have been difficult to have seen where the bike was parked looking from the road.

Cambridge, Roto-o-rangi Rd - Lamb Road
We are told Sunday 27 October another offender or offenders with the I.Q. of an earwig decided to start up a digger at a new subdivision being developed. They tried digging a few holes then not content with that drove the digger across Lamb Road and tried using the arm of the digger to demolish the roof of a barn and then not content with that decided to set fire to the digger.

For our regular readers you will recall that a few months ago we mentioned that heavy machinery was being interfered with in the Cambridge area. We are also told that it appears to be a regular occurrence for trucks and diggers to be stolen from the contractors working on the Waikato Expressway. Very handy for the gangs and illegal drug manufacturers to use to bury containers and other proceeds of crime.

Te Rahu Rd Te Awamutu
We have numerous households in Te Rahu Rd listed in our database but we do not hear from anyone, yet the police tell us, using their own terminology, " We are absolutely being spanked with burglaries on this road at the moment." That includes both urban and rural areas of Te Rahu Rd.

Matamata
We are told of burglaries occurring in the College - Kowhai road area over the past few weeks with one lady being hit more than once.

Power Meters
Police in Cambridge are advising that someone has been going around turning off people's power meters at anytime of day or night, so if you can secure your mains power box some how,it would be a good idea. Police have some leads they are following.

Police advise they are still looking for Tawhai Peeke who was involved in a firearms incident at Paeroa on Tuesday 22 October. He is described as being 38 yrs medium build and 187cm tall. He has connections to the wider Hamilton area.

To be made aware is to be made alert. We rely on you folk out there to keep us and then the wider community informed. The police can only tell us of so much and they are only a thin blue line. It is up to us as communities to help as much as we can. Our emails are read by police in various locations and sometimes the information has been of quite some use to them.
Thank you people

Incredible

This is a little out of our area but one of our Te Kowhai readers asked if we would publish this incident on his behalf. Our man is a Surveyor and last Thursday he was working on the Waikato Expressway in the area of Long Swamp which is between Te Kauwhata and Hampton Downs. He had his tripod and his GPS Base Station all set up. He was working away nicely when at 1.30pm his handheld remote all of a sudden stopped working. Now the GPS Base station, contained in a yellow and in a black pelican case, will be of no use to anyone without the use of the handheld our man still had in his possession. One minute he was using the hand held and the next minute, gone. He goes back to the tripod and,…. gone. Plus the 2 cases containing the base station….. gone.

Keep a lookout people. Could have been tossed into a drain somewhere……maybe.

Interesting that the same Thursday evening the site offices at Long Swamp were also broken into and a Wacker Packer stolen along with computers.

Townsend Road Wharepapa Sth.

Thursday / Friday last week. Someone unhinged a locked farm gate. They then broke the locks on the Diesel and the petrol tank and stole 1/2 the contents from both tanks. They then entered the farm stay building but appears nothing taken from there.

Waharoa

You may ask as to why we are reporting on Waharoa. The answer being that Open Country has been observing what Commsafe has been doing. They were suitably impressed and said they would sponsor us by providing a vehicle and associated costs on the proviso we helped get Neighbourhood Support up and running in the Waharoa area where their H.Q. is situated.

So.

3 burglaries in the Jones Street area in the past week. One house completely ransacked. Lady living on her own, now too scared to sleep in her bedroom and prefers to remain in her lounge where the offenders broke in by smashing a window.

Another house and the offenders cut a hole in the garage door first so they could see as to what was inside.

Mitre10 Ladies night and gardening night

This Thursday evening folks at Te Awamutu. Mitre 10 have kindly picked Commsafe again as the recipitants of your kind gold coin donations. You all enjoyed yourselves at the event last year so please come again this year. It is a good night.

Altrusa Te Awamutu

Thank you to these kind ladies who wanted to say thank you in some way to our team of Community Patrollers at Te Awamutu. It is not often that our patrollers get to mix with each other socially so the High Tea these ladies put on for us on Sunday was just the ticket. Very much appreciated.

Thanks folks. To be made aware is to be made alert. Keep your news rolling into us.
