New Zealand's suicide rate remains alarmingly high. A total of 579 Kiwis took their own lives in the 2016 financial year.

Once again, New Zealand's suicide toll is the worst it's been since the Coroner's Office began keeping records in 2008.

There needs to be more discussion about suicide prevention and how family, friends and colleagues could identify someone at risk and help them get professional support.

Te Ara Korowai is facilitating a 2 hour workshop on 2nd June in the Kapiti Community Centre to make local people more aware of suicide.

Together we can have meaningful conversations that could potentially save lives.

Keeping learning is an important part of wellbeing.
Would you like to improve your confidence with reading, writing, spelling or maths?
You’ll learn practical skills in a supportive environment.
Every Wednesday at Te Ara Korowai, we offer a 2 hour workshop aimed at people who would like to work on their literacy or numeracy. The course is run by Adult Learning Support Kapiti
and registration in advance is required. Restarting in January!

Walking requires no special equipment or expense and is the ideal way for most people to become more active.as well as more connected to … View moreOur weekly health walks have been established to create a supportive environment for people to start to enjoy the many benefits of being more physically active. Walking requires no special equipment or expense and is the ideal way for most people to become more active.as well as more connected to each other. At Te Ara Korowai we offer a weekly health walk in Raumati Beach, Walking is great for our mental wellbeing as is connecting with nature and each other! We invite you as our neighbours to join us any week on our walk. We would love to meet you! The term restarts on 16th January with the walk every Tuesday and our walkers will leave at 9.30am from Te Ara Korowai in Raumati Beach for a 30 minute accessible and low impact walk. Refreshments are available afterwards in our art studio.
We also have a Monday yoga session from 11.30 - 12 at Te Ara Korowai with Swami Madhuram from Yoga in Daily Life. Such a great way to start the week by controlling our breathing and having a big old stretch!
