Do you want to know you are making a positive impact?
This could be the role for you!

We are looking for a compassionate and engaging support person for a young man in Hillsborough. You need to be friendly, patient, calm and able to adjust your style to match this young man when his energy is low.

He thrives having someone alongside him when he is out and about, or to chat with on the days when things are a little rough. Someone who can promote social skills, healthy living and independence would be amazing. He loves gaming and coding, and heading to the gym when he can.

Some understanding of mental health and Aspergers would be an advantage, but reliability and engagement are the keys we are looking for. The role is about 5 hours a week, ideally during the day, but we can work the hours around what works best for you. A driver’s licence and your own vehicle are needed for this role.

If this sounds like the job you have been looking for, we would love to chat with you. Please email jobs@flyingkites.org.nz or send me a message

If so, then we have the job you have been looking for. A 17 year old with an intellectual disability is looking for a peer mentor/buddy to fill his afternoons. You will chat, kick a ball around, head to walk on the beach or explore the museum. He is a friendly chatty guy who loves most things online, a good laugh and having decent people to talk to. He is looking for someone who can be good company, help him fill his afternoons and be a bit of a role model. He would love a gym buddy, to work out alongside and keep him motivated.

If you had a full licence there would be more fun ways to fill your afternoons, but we are open to anyone applying who can bring some energy and enthusiasm to the role.

We are looking for someone about 8-10 hours per week: 3 hours on a Saturday, plus 2 or 3 afternoons after school. If you wanted to do some extra school holiday hours that would be amazing, but not essential.

If you are interested, please email jobs@flyingkites.org.nz or send me a message.

We are looking for someone to work 3 days across the week (Mon – Fri) supporting a man in his early 20’s with Down Syndrome. Days will change each week depending on mums shifts so flexibility is important.

You will be a peer support for this young man. He needs someone to help him with his afternoon (3-7pm) routine. As a diabetic he will need support to test himself each day and give his insulin. If you know how to do this then great, if not then mum will teach you. Afternoons start by picking him up from his programme and going home, prepare afternoon tea and then do some fun activities. Things like going to the gym, going for a swim, bowling or a walk.

This easy going young man would love someone fun, chatty to hang out with and have a sense of humour. Pop music, food and sport are some of the things he loves to talk about. Someone who can have a laugh whilst being a great support developing his self-management skills. A car and full licence are essential for this role.

• Do you love getting out and about on adventures?
• A young teenager in West Auckland looking for fun on Saturdays
• Are you supportive of neurodivergent and rainbow communities?

We are looking for a young person to have fun and adventures with a teenager who is highly intelligent, gifted with autism & ADHD. Every week on a Saturday for about 4 hours to go out and enjoy the local area and/or wider Auckland.

Perhaps you are neurodivergent yourself or have a good understanding of neurodiversity?
Generally, this teen is bubbly, happy and a kind person, but can get overwhelmed sometimes. As well as being fun and energetic yourself, you will need to be patient, calm and empathetic when the need arises. To be able to go with the flow of someone who is energetic and impulsive. Supporting her in her ideas and talking through how they can work. Being able to wait out any moments of anxiety and discuss them later would be a great skill for this role and not taking things personally.

Saturdays will consist of going to places like the mall, a game of mini golf or trying something new. You will need a car and a full licence, like dogs and not be afraid of spiders! We need someone who can move spiders should the need arise. Being able talk/hear about video games such as Zelda and Pokémon would be a great advantage.

If you are up for fun filled Saturdays, please email jobs@flyingkites.org.nz or send me a message
