Tree maintenance - Waikanae Park

The Team from Kāpiti Coast District Council

šŸ“¢ Kia ora Kāpiti. Next week we'll begin maintenance on a number of trees at Waikanae Park to improve safety for our visitors. The mature poplar trees, which line the accessway from Park Avenue to the former green waste site, have dangerous limbs needing to be trimmed. Our contractor will be using a crane for access, as well as a digger and chipper to process wood onsite.

Following this mahi, we'll be felling a number of trees bordering the old green waste site to improve site safety for a new tenant. We expect this work to take approximately three weeks to complete.

To keep our community safe, there'll be no public access to this site while work is underway, and we're working directly with the Waikanae Pony Club to ensure their events can happen around our works.

Please take extra care and follow the instructions of crews and signage.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to ā€œexuberanceā€? šŸ„

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re ā€œallergic to exuberance.ā€

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
