Forrest Hill intensification changes: Auckland Concil feedback now open

The Team from Forrest Hill Neighbourhood Society

The Auckland Council has opened formal submissions to the zoning changes that the government has imposed, known as "Plan Change 78". These zoning changes will remove the need to apply for resource consent when building up to six-storey apartment buildings or multiple town-houses depending on the zoning. No parts of Forrest Hill will be zoned for single dwellings.

The council acknowledges that private covenants override council zoning, meaning that multiple dwellings per lot are prohibited from being built in the Forrest Hill covenant area.

This change will likely result in more developers attempting to build in this area in violation of the Forrest Hill covenants, thus it is important residents of Becroft Drive, Longwood Pl, Grenada Ave, Pendene Pl, Trevone Pl, Kennedy Ave, Augusta Pl, Baltimore Pl, Lyttelton Ave, Wilmington Pl and Newport Pl have their say and oppose these changes.

You can make a submission to Council here, submissions close on 29th September. We encourage you to make a submission here:

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!

Home made bread problem

Karen from Totara Vale

Is anyone else having trouble with bread dough not rising properly?

I used to be able to turn out a decent loaf but now the bread is half the height - if that - and very dense.

I've used 4 different brands of yeast including the type bakers use to no avail. I've changed the flour to the best available and I've followed the recipe meticulously.

It can only be the flour?

What do you think?
