My Resene Colour Your Community nomination

Trish from Nawton

I would like to nominate St Mary's Gordonton Church for the Colour your Community. This beautiful historic church is coming up 90 years old and as a parish, we are currently raising funds as it requires earthquake strengthening. It is a small parish with a variety of ages and raising funds is a huge task that we are undertaking but has been hampered due to Covid restrictions. This prize would be amazing to win as the cost for earthquake strengthening is significant and raising funds is a huge effort. St Mary's is a Grade 2 listed historic building and has been standing in this little community since Wartime. It is looking sad and once the building is strengthened we will have to paint it to bring it back to its former glory. It is a brick building but requires painting on soffits, battens, doors and window frames Please consider us a viable contestant as this lovely church & the community of Gordonton would benefit from this immensely. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Regards, Trish Smithson.

‘Huge potential’ for Te Rapa Racecourse site if sale goes ahead

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

If the races gallop off to Tamahere, “exciting things” could happen with the sizeable city site they leave behind, property experts say.

On Tuesday, the Waikato Times revealed Waikato Thoroughbred Racing’s (WTR) plans to buy 150ha of farmland south of Hamilton to house the region’s three racing clubs at a new purpose-built racecourse and event centre.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.

Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?

Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
