Controversial Dome Valley landfill approved following split vote
The controversial proposal to build a landfill in Auckland’s Dome Valley has been approved, despite stiff opposition.
Waste Management New Zealand will construct and operate the 60-hectare landfill on its 1000-hectare site after the project was granted resource consent on Monday.
A panel of independent commissioners, who heard evidence from the applicant, submitters, mana whenua and 20 Auckland Council specialists on the proposal, were split in their final decision.
