Monarch butterflies could be on the brink of extinction
On January 17, 2021, the Xerces Society – an international conservation group – announced the results of its 24th annual winter butterfly count, and the news isn’t good for butterfly lovers. The group reported that the population of monarchs that winters along the California coast hit a low of less than 2,000 butterflies, a 99.9% decline since the 1980s, when up to 10 million butterflies overwintered in California.
Scientists say that loss of habitat, climate change and pesticide use are the leading factors in the butterflies decline.
Please plant butterfly friendly plants, Kings seeds have a mix for this, and reduce pesticide usage. Councils also need to be petitioned to modify their pesticide use. It is not just butterflies that we stand to lose.
Calling all those in Wheelchairs
Hi, I'm Simon .... a 44 yr old wheelchair user who wants to meet others in a similar position as myself (particularly a woman). I've been a sole parent now for almost 18 years and my son has just left the nest, so I thought it was time to start on the next stage of my life. I have cerebral palsy that effects just my legs (kinda the reason I can't walk) sooooooo if any of you are interested in getting to know me, flick me a message. I enjoy spending time with my son when he comes to visit and my pets (1 cat and 2 birds), I also enjoy building computers as well as a bit of gaming/watching TV too. So if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, shoot me a message.
