Dogs in cars

The Team from Kāpiti Coast District Council

Don’t leave your pets locked in the car this summer, even if you’re nipping into a shop. 🐕

On a 30C day, the temperature inside a vehicle can reach 39C in less than 5 minutes; in 30 minutes, it will be 49°C.

While we sometimes get calls about dogs trapped in hot cars, only the SPCA and Police can take action under the Animal Welfare Act. Call either agency in the first instance if you see a dog locked in a hot car.
