The allergy capital of New Zealand.
Two years ago I ended up on an inhaler due to breathing problems in spring and summer - close to 9 months of the year actually. Back then I was told that "you don't need to have asthma to need an inhaler in the Waikato because "Hamilton is the allergy capital of New Zealand". Last year I needed the inhaler on and off for a few months - this year I haven't needed it yet though I was stuffed up for two weeks and now, though I'm breathing easily, am occasionally getting sinus headaches. So the question whether it is that much better elsewhere in the country or if there is a way to better manage symptoms in Hamilton?
Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
