Porirua suburb approaching $1million mark

Reporter Community News

Porirua’s median property prices have risen by 49 per cent since 2017.

This is about double the rate for Wellington City, higher than Hutt, and the red hot Kāpiti Coast. It smashes Auckland, Christchurch and the overall national figures. Porirua’s mayor Anita Baker says the word ‘affordable’ no longer has any meaning when it comes to housing – and the city was not far away from a million-dollar median value for its homes.

This year the Porirua suburb of Aotea hit $1m ($958,000 in 2019) as its median house price. Whitby has a median of $814,000 ($760,000 in 2019), while Cannons Creek sits at $486,000 ($413,000 in 2019) and Waitangirua $465,000 ($399,000 in 2019).

In Wellington City the likes of Seatoun had a median value of about $1.5m, Kelburn $1.3m while Newlands was $714,000.

We are looking for an Aotea resident to feature in a Stuff story. If you are selling or thinking about selling please contact Joel Maxwell

Poll: Would you participate in local initiatives aimed at stopping plastic from reaching our oceans?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Volunteers will be scouring the foreshore, riverbanks, and islands for rubbish on Saturday the 13th as part of the Clean Up the Hutt event.

This initiative helps stop plastic from reaching our oceans and makes our waterways cleaner and safer for everyone.

We want to know: Should this be rolled out across all coastal cities in Aotearoa? And more importantly… would you get involved? 💚

Want the details? The Post has you covered.
