Beach Haven Coastal Connection - Consultation Options

John Gillon from John Gillon - Kaipatiki Local Board

The Shore Action team is happy to announce that the Kaipātiki Local Board has approved 4 different options to go out for public consultation on the first stage of the Beach Haven Coastal Connection.
The Beach Haven Coastal Connection is envisaged to be a significant recreational route for the Kaipātiki community, providing an integrated connection from Beach Haven Wharf (via Tui Park) to both the Bayview Coastal Walkway and Eskdale Reserve Network.
This will not only be an exciting recreational route, but is really important when other tracks are being closed to protect kauri from dieback disease.

The options that will be going out for consultation for the first stage are:
* Shepherds Park to Tui Park Alignment 1 (excluding spur to Tui Park Beach; within budget)
* Shepherds Park to Tui Park Alignment 2 (exceeds current budget)
* New bridge connections from Shepherds Park to Hellyers Creek Reserve, and from Hellyers Creek Reserve to Kahika Point Reserve (exceeds current budget)
* Do nothing
NOTE: The upgrade of the existing tracks in Shepherds Park and Hellyer's Creek Reserve can be done in addition to any of the proposed options and will be covered by separate funding.

The budget that the Local Board have tagged to this part of the project is $1.5million. Of that, $1.1million must be spent on new or upgraded connections.

John Gillon from John Gillon - Kaipatiki Local Board

NEWSFLASH: The wait is over and the Kauri Glen Reserve treetop bridge and boardwalk is NOW OPEN to the public! Check it out!

And please join us for our official opening/celebration in a couple of weeks!
➡️ When: 12pm Sunday 28 April
➡️ Where: Kauri Glen Road entrance to Kauri Glen Reserve
➡️ Facebook event: www.facebook.com...
Free BBQ! Walk the new track!

This is a new step-free route between Kauri Glen Road and Tui Glen Road, with a refurbished track (including steps) to Raymond Terrace. The new bridge is around 6 storeys high with a very impressive view of the forest tree tops.
The new tracks, bridge and boardwalk have been built to a standard to help prevent the spread of kauri dieback disease, which is especially important in this park.
*** Please always clean your shoes, bikes, prams and wheelchairs at the stations. ***

Note: We made the decision to allow public access earlier than expected to prevent further damage to the forest by those who were throwing the fences into the trees 🙁

- Funded by the Kaipātiki Local Board and Natural Environment Targeted Rate.
