EPSOM LODGE

Manjula from Epsom

As a resident who resides right opposite the Salvation army  – The Epsom lodge for over 15 years .
My neighbours and I have a major concern ,  salvation army relocating their smoking area into the public pavement.

Having made further inquiries about it as to why the smoking area which was initially inside the premises was brought outside, we were made to understand that “ Salvation army would get further funds from the government etc., if they remove the smoking area from their premises.

As much we respect and honour the services done by Salvation army – it is sad to note that they have been very inconsiderate of their neighbours and decided to make this decision for their benefit. We as neighbours , the general public that pass by, and children who pass this premises to get to school have been inhaling smoke for the over 1 year as there are lots of smokers smoking most of the hours in a day, and at night too. There are so many smokers seated around in groups smoking, people can barely pass by , they’ve even got their own chairs kept permanently on the pavement.
We are surprised as to why the schools in the area has not raised this issue up to date or the Auckland City Council not taking any action about this. It has become a very unhealthy area for us to reside. I woke most of the times from home amongst the smoke smell.

I would like to hear from the local schools in the area and other interested parties about this concern.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
