Water Shutdown - Riverside Drive, Rata, Kowhai and James Streets, Thursday, 20 June 2019

Richard Parfitt from Whakatāne District Council

Date: Thursday, 20 June 2019
Time: 9 AM - 4 PM
Affected Properties: Rata Street and portion of Riverside Drive, Kowhai Street and James Street (see map below)

Whakatāne District Council wishes to advice you of a planned water shutdown in your area between the hours shown above. This is to enable connection works to be carried out as part of the Water mains and connections renewal project in Riverside Drive and Rata Street.

After the water supply is restored, please be advised that mains flushing will be carried out to remove any entrapped air or sediment in the line. In cases where your private pipes are old and/or rusted (e.g. galvanised iron pipe), as a precaution, we advised that you run your outside tap for at least 2-3 minutes to dislodge any sediment and remove entrapped air in your lines prior to opening any inside taps. If the water appears milky continue to flush lines until this clears, this is caused by pockets of air becoming compressed and entering the water. This is perfectly safe.

Important: If you or a member of your household depends on water for critical medical support that requires a continuation of water supply – please ensure you make alternative arrangements for the times stated above.

We recommend that you fill a couple of buckets or your bathtub with water for your use and have a potable water container filled with water for drinking.

Council thanks consumers for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience experienced during this essential supply shutdown.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding this shutdown, please contact any of the following personnel:

Draintech: 027 538 0853 (Glenn Goodall) or 027 274 7033 (Stuart Munro)

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
