Vodafone - Data charges - Complaint
Is anyone else having issues with Vodafone over their data charges and casual data usage/charges?
I have a complaint being looked into at the Commerce Commission where they are using my account as an example with Vodafone of this issue.
My complaint is that we are not getting the warning text to say" you are almost out of data". Neither are we getting the text to say "You have now run out of data". The only text i get is to say you have no more credit available!
So, where we should be offered the choice, by Vodafone sending the warning texts, this is being taken away from us.
Where we should have the choice whether we use their casual data rates, they are just applying them and draining your account of any credit sitting there.
When i have called Vodafone as an unhappy customer regarding this conduct, they say it's always been like that. NO. It has not, otherwise I wouldn't be taking issue with it.
I am aware of turning on and off the mobile data. I am aware that I can set a data limit. This is beside the point.
Last week at 3.15pm I topped up another $30 for the data deal 5000mbs for $22.00 plus paying back my IOU $5.50 = $27.50. Leaves $2.50 in my account. Right?
Nope. Just after 4pm I went to purchase that 5000mbs with the credit applied. "I'm sorry. You DO NOT have enough credit to make this purchase!!!!!!"
Say what??
I called them to argue this.
"I'm sorry. You left on your Mobile Data in that hour and it has used all of that credit on casual data rates and now its all gone."
No way (and i've since tested it) that my phone, untethered and only background apps have used all of this credit in an hour.
I tested by taking a data reading before bed, leaving mobile data on, and checking again data levels in the morning. Less than 100mbs in 8 hours!
So how does Vodafone justify using all $24.50 (after IOU paid) on casual data in an hour with nobody actually using any device attached to this data, and no randoms have breached security and stolen the data either.
Had any similar experiences?
I would be very interested in hearing them :-)

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
