Jumping thief in neighbourhood

Neeta from Mount Albert

Hi all
This afternoon around 5 pm, we had a female running over a few fences and an alert neighbour and friend sent me an urgent text saying she had seen her jump their fence and was into ours and then the next..it seems she was running away from someone, probably the cops..
We alerted our other immediate neighbours. She was seen entering an empty and unlocked house, another guy joined her soon. She even calmly tried to make casual conversation across the fence, with another family member of mine, about another accident near our house enquiring why cops were there etc etc..
My friend had already called the cops in and as they were talking to us, she walks out the driveway and was identified as the same one walking into the drive way earlier. The cop followed her and we were later told by the cops that this was the same female they were looking for in connection with a bike theft nearby.. and that she has now been arrested.
We saw her being handcuffed and being put in the car later.
Not sure if these guys live in that empty house- actually up for rent. The cops did go inside and have a look.
As a result of all our combined efforts, we were able to keep a thief off-from amongst the community and alerting immediate neighbours in the process.
Just a neighbourly reminder, please do alert your immediate neighbours and the cops of any suspicious intruders, or suspicious properties, as they could be dangerous.
Take care

Poll: Would you want an unconventional funeral?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

Funerals can cost as much as $22,000 and the planning can be stressful especially at a time when loved ones are grieving. Some New Zealanders are re-imagining funerals by making their own coffin or having a relaxed ceremony at home. Would you want a less traditional funeral? Share your thoughts below.

Type 'Not For Print' if you wish your comments to be excluded from the Conversations column of your local paper.
