Our local customer service superstars!

New World Porirua

Winners all round at Porirua New World! Last week New World Porirua competed in the annual Foodstuffs 'Checker of the Year' competition held in Wellington.

This year the team (from left to right: Kaitlyn, Anila, Satinder, Nooroa, Malota, Ashma and Vaishali) competed against 70 other Wellington Checkers from the region's Pak n Save, New World and Four Squares stores for a place in the Top 10.

This year the team took out the top prize for 'Best Supporters' dressing up to the theme 'Blast from the Past' celebrating 70 years of Checker.

The judging criteria the checkers were marked on included their friendly greeting, sorting ability, giving the correct change and their scan rate.

The marks are all so close and it generally comes down to the speed across the scanner with only seconds as the differentiating factor.

Tony McNeil, Owner/Operator of New World Porirua says 'we are extremely proud of our team and will be celebrating over a morning tea to recognise the team who leave such a lasting impression on our customers.'

Congratulations Team!

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”

We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?

Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
